Beginning with the graduating Class of 2019 students will be honored at graduation using university-aligned Latin honors designations.  The Chatham County Schools Board of Education approved this change during the March 12, 2018 monthly meeting. These new designations are listed below for reference.

• Summa Cum Laude for students with weighted grade point average of 4.5 or higher. This Latin designation means “With Highest Honor”.

• Magna Cum Laude for students with weighted grade point average of 4.0 to 4.49. This Latin designation means “With Great Honor”.

• Cum Laude for students with weighted grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99. This Latin designation means “With Honor”.

   

Beginning with the 1986-87 school year, Superintendent Perry Harrison wanted to recognize high school students who excelled in academics.  This resulted in the Academic Excellence Award.  Ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth graders may be recognized for academic excellence.  The recognition will be made by the presentation of plaques at the annual awards day in late spring at each high school.  Recipients will earn the academic excellence plaque by meeting the following requirements:

Seniors:                   
Seniors will be eligible for an additional award which will be in the form of a trophy.  In order to be a recipient of the senior academic excellence trophy, the student must have received all A's on all credit courses, including the 6th six weeks and final exam of second semester, for four years through the fifth grading period of the senior year. The Academic Excellence Awards was approved by Chatham County Board of Education.

Scholar Athlete
To be considered a scholar athlete, a student must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA).  The GPA may be either weighted or unweighted to be recognized.  The 3.5 GPA must be maintained during the student's sport season.  The student athlete's GPA is calculated at the end of each semester.  

Junior Marshal
In order to be considered for graduation honors, such as Junior Marshal, a student must have completed their final three consecutive semesters enrolled at the particular high school in an educational program that included a full eight semesters of high school coursework.  Also, to be considered for such honors, all courses which are specifically required for meeting Chatham County High School's graduation requirements, taken during these final three consecutive semesters, must be taken through the school's educational program, including "concurrent credit" courses taken at Central Carolina Community College or other approved institutions.  Junior Marshal selections will be based on students' GPA.

To earn a cord for graduation seniors must maintain a 3.2 with no failing grades and have completed 10 service hours for each year in the club.

National Technical Honors Society
Guidelines for becoming a member of the National Technical Honors Society. Student must 

• Be a Junior or Senior

• Have earned a grade of an "A" in a second level course in a CTE Program Area

• Have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 in all classes

• Be a member of the CTSO associated with the class from which the student is being nominated

• Be nominated by his/her CTE Teacher
