BOARD

The Chatham County Board of Education is the local governing body of the Chatham County Public School System. The five members have been elected by Chatham County citizens.

The school board sets policy for the school system, which is then administered by the superintendent and staff. The school board also sets the direction of the school system through the strategic planning process and adopts an annual budget that includes its request for local funding from the Chatham County Board of Commissioners, as well as its plan for the use of state and federal funds.

The North Carolina State Board of Education, as legislated by the North Carolina General Assembly, provides statewide public school governance. The state is responsible for the majority of the district's funding as well as oversight of core academic curricula.

Jane Allen Wilson is a native and life-long resident of Chatham County, and she is honored to represent District 4 in Siler City. She is the youngest of six children, born to civic-minded parents who reared them in our public schools.  She has many vivid and fond memories of our schools, learning from the other children around her, and developing an immense sense of gratitude for the many teachers who worked hard to provide a strong foundation for them, who opened their minds to a vast and opportunity-filled world, and who inspired them to explore and strive so that they would find their place in the world.

She wants for all of the county’s children to be seen and valued and to feel that inspiration, to discover their unique talents and the joy of learning, to be welcomed and feel safe, and to delve into their futures secure in that fact that we have given them the foundation and the skills to create their futures.
