CCS Public Records Requests
Chatham County Schools believes in transparency, which in turn leads to stronger public trust. The general public (students, parents, employees, and community stakeholders) have the right to request and inspect all public records available to them under state law.
Records available to the public are governed by two state laws:
General Statute Chapter 132: outlines the type of records available to the public.
General Statute Chapter 115C - Article 21A: outlines the employee information that is available to the public.
There are some exemptions to the public records law. Some individual student and employee information, for example, is not available to the public.
If there are existing public records that contain requested information, CCS will provide the documents to the requester. However, CCS will not compile information or create records that do not already exist.
Please be as specific as possible when making a request. We will do our best to respond to your request within 15 business days. We also try to provide an estimate of how long it will take to fulfill, understanding we process them in the order in which they are received.
