AVID Elective
Components of the AVID Elective
The AVID student notebook contains all of the material for every class each semester. The notebook must be organized according to the AVID rubric and will be graded each week.
Tutorials occur twice a week when meeting face-to-face. Tutorials are small study groups that are facilitated by college students (including those high school students who are dual-enrolled in community college) and also by adult volunteers. Each AVID student is to come prepared for the tutorial with questions from their core or college classes.
The AVID curriculum focuses on the W.I.C.O.R. skills necessary to succeed at a university:
Writing -- Inquiry -- Collaboration -- Organization -- Reading
Students may be offered the opportunity to visit local colleges and universities (field trips may occur virtually) during the school year.
During the junior and senior years, students focus on and receive support in college entrance testing and college application.
