Professional and Personal Beliefs of Robert L. Logan
I believe given adequate time and appropriate instruction, all children can learn. I do not believe nature is more significant to intelligence than nurturing.
I believe money does matter. I do not believe educational equity exists in all 115 LEA’s in North Carolina.
I believe a high quality classroom teacher is the most important factor to a child receiving a sound quality education. I do not believe programs, strategies, or technology can replace or make-up the difference for a poor teacher.
I believe a highly qualified principal (leadership) is the most important factor to school reform. I do not believe a school can be highly successful in spite of the principal.
I believe we know and have known for sometime what we need to do to educate all children well. The fact that we have not done so is a matter of will. I do not believe educating all children well has always been a priority to our country.
I believe it takes a village to raise a child. I do not believe the school can educate all children well regardless of the community.
I believe rigor, relevance, and relationships are significant to a child’s education. I do not believe all children are intrinsically motivated.
I believe that our youth go into the profession of education because they have a higher social calling and conscience. I do not believe all intelligent well educated people can teach.
I believe school reform and growth occurs best when it is bottom-up. I do not believe external reform prevails over internal resistance.
I believe communication is crucial for the growth and success of all organizations. I do believe when there is a void of information someone will fill it with something.
